History
The County is one of the most affluent counties in the United States, where one area is commonly referred to as the Gold Coast. This County in CT has a long history that dates back well before colonial times. Originally, the land where the County now stands was home to many Native American tribes. The major Amtrak artery which runs through the county makes commuting to New York or Boston a breeze. Several main highways and thoroughfares, including Interstate 95 and the Merritt Parkway, crisscross the County.
Education
The County boasts of an educated population where 39.9% of the population holds a Bachelor’s degree or higher, well above the national average of 27.2%. The school systems in the County consistently score well above the state average on standardized tests. Besides an excellent public school system, it also has some of the finest private schools in the country.
There are many major colleges and universities in the area, including Southern Connecticut State University and Yale University’s West Campus bioscience center. There are currently 44,981 students enrolled in local colleges and universities.
