New Haven CT Homes
New Haven Connecticut has the New England charm, memorable international cuisine, world-class architecture and a robust cosmopolitan lifestyle. The City of New Haven Connecticut is located on Long Island Sound between Boston and New York City. The greater New Haven area spans from harbors and historic city centers two charming little towns and historic beaches. The city was established in 1638 and was one of the earliest planned communities in North America by the English Puritans; but now is home to many different nationalities including Jewish, Irish, Italian, Asians, Latino, African-American and Germans. The city’s neighborhoods, festivals, fairs and historical societies preserve the flavors and traditions of New Haven’s broad cultural backgrounds.
Sports
New Haven is not big in the major leagues such as baseball and football; however, they are big into ice hockey. They have had a minor league ice hockey team for 76 years. The New Haven Eagles were one of the founding members of the American Hockey League in 1936. Once hockey came to an end in 1997 in New Haven, the fans had to rely on the Yale team for their excitement.
Education
New Haven offers two major high schools, Wilbur Cross high school and Hillhouse high school, Hopkins school - a private school - founded in 1660 is the fifth oldest educational institution in the United States. There are a number of private as well as public schools offered in the city of New Haven including several magnet schools which draw students from New Haven as well as surrounding areas.
Of course the most notable school of all its Yale University in the heart of downtown New Haven. They’re one of the most cities largest employers and have become one of the city’s best-known features. Three other campuses have their locations in New Haven; they are Gateway Community College, Albertus Magnus College and Southern Connecticut State University. Higher education is very important and very serious business in the City of New Haven.
Jobs
The job outlook for New Haven Connecticut is good. One can work at one of the three colleges or universities, hospitals, Pennsylvania Power and Light or any number of small businesses in the downtown area. New Haven has seen growth in the past several years.
