It was a settler named Roger Ludlow who purchased Norwalk in 1640 from Native Americans.  The town was became a town in 1651 when it was first incorporated.  Since then, it has been reincorporated several other times and was consolidated as a city in 1913.  South Norwalk is now part of Norwalk.
